As the demand for composite materials in the rail transportation industry increases, the layout of international standards is becoming more and more important. While existing standards provide more complete guidance on material performance and safety, future standard-setting needs to be better adapted to new technological developments, globalization trends and the requirements of sustainable development.

1.Trends in the integration of standards across regions

At present, composite material standards for rail transportation are mainly developed by standard organizations such as ISO, EN, ASTM and UIC, but each region and country also has its own independent standard system. These standards differ in material properties, test methods and application scenarios, which brings certain challenges to globalization application and promotion. In the future, international organizations will pay more attention to the compatibility of standards in different regions, and promote the seamless application of composite materials in global rail transit systems through cross-regional standard integration. Such integration will not only help standardize the production process, but also facilitate innovative cooperation among manufacturers in various countries under unified standards.

2.Challenges to standards posed by technological innovation

With the rapid progress of material science and manufacturing process, the performance of composite materials for rail transportation has been continuously improved, and new materials such as high-modulus carbon fibers and smart composites have emerged. It is difficult for the existing standards to fully cover the characteristics of these innovative materials, therefore, the future standard system needs to be constantly updated to cope with the performance and safety requirements of these emerging materials. For example, smart composites have a sensing function that can self-monitor and adjust the structural state, and such materials need to increase the corresponding intelligent monitoring and control performance tests. The future layout of standards will be more flexible, allowing new materials and technologies to be recognized through standard revisions or additions.

3.Integration of the concept of sustainable development

In the context of global sustainable development, composite material standards in the field of rail transportation will pay more attention to the environmental performance and recycling requirements of materials. For example, the standard may increase the requirements for assessing the recyclability of composite materials and promote the adoption of more environmentally friendly and low-carbon material production methods. At the same time, the standard will further specify the indicators of carbon emission and waste disposal during the use of materials, so as to promote the green transformation of the rail transportation system.

4.Strengthening testing and certification techniques to ensure consistency in the implementation of standards

Effective implementation of standards cannot be achieved without scientific and rigorous testing and certification techniques. With the broadening of composite applications, standardized testing techniques and certification procedures will be further developed. In the future layout of the standard, the testing technology will be more refined, such as multi-scenario simulation test, long-term aging test and environmental adaptability test, etc., which will help to more accurately assess the performance of materials in different use environments. In addition, intelligent and automated testing techniques will be gradually incorporated into the standards to improve testing efficiency and reliability of results.
